Disaster Field Operations Course

The Disaster Field Operations course is an intensive classroom and multi-day field-simulation experience for students and professionals who are interested in learning how to respond to extreme events internationally. The course will be held at FIU and will culminate with a three-day disaster field exercise where participants will apply knowledge learned during the graduate program in a disaster-simulated scenario. The course will cover an introduction to humanitarian concepts and principles, deployment, reporting lines and authority, civil-military coordination, Olso guidelines, key military actors, possible tasks and activities, planning considerations, personal and team security, safety and medical care, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), rapid assessment and data collection and deployment considerations.
